About the Hayward AquaRite
Hayward's AquaRite owner's manual (092540 Rev G) covers three models: the W3AQR15 for pools up to 40,000 gallons, the W3AQR9 for pools up to 25,000 gallons and the W3AQR3 for pools up to 15,000 gallons. The replacement parts list is one list for all three; it covers the control unit, main and display circuit boards, flow switch, transformer, rectifier, fuses and cell fittings. Replacement cells are not in this list.
Hayward says each model is packaged with a corresponding Turbo cell and the control must be set to the cell in use: t-3 for the W3AQR3 with a T-CELL-3 or GLX-CELL-3-W, t-9 for the W3AQR9 with a T-CELL-9 or GLX-CELL-9-W, t-15 for the W3AQR15 with a T-CELL-15 or GLX-CELL-15-W, and t-5 with a GLX-CELL-5 or GLX-CELL-5-W. t-15 is the factory default.
Hayward's TurboCell S3 sheet (092666 Rev B) cross-references each TurboCell S3 cell to the older cell selection a chlorinator's menu uses: TCELLS340, TCELLS340W and TCELLS340X25 to t-15 / T-CELL-15; TCELLS325 and TCELLS325W to t-9 / T-CELL-9; TCELLS318 and TCELLS318W to t-5 / T-CELL-5; TCELLS315 and TCELLS315W to t-3 / T-CELL-3. It says the chlorinator must be configured for the cell, and not to use a TurboCell S3 if the chlorinator does not offer the cross-referenced selection. It lists the AQR (AquaRite, 2009 or later, firmware 1.5 or later) among the chlorinators that need this configuration, and says the AQ-RITE (2008 and earlier) and AQ-RITE-XL are compatible only with the TCELLS340, TCELLS340X25 and TCELLS340W.
Common problems and the parts involved
"No Flow" light on and no chlorine being made
Hayward's troubleshooting: the AquaRite has sensed no flow and stopped generating. Check that the flow switch is plugged into the bottom of the control and its wire is not cut or damaged, that there is at least 12 in of straight pipe before the flow switch, and that the arrows on the switch point in the direction of flow.
Parts: Replacement flow switch, 15 ft cable, Replacement flow switch, 25 ft cable, Flow switch tee fitting.
"Power" light not on
Hayward's troubleshooting: check that input power is connected to the proper terminals at the control; if there is power, the fuse may have blown. The manual identifies it as a 20 amp mini ATO fuse on the circuit board above the cell connector, but does not say which of the listed 20 amp fuse packs that is.
Parts: 20 amp glass fuse (10 pack), 20 amp yellow fuse (10 pack), Fuse holder kit.
"-Pcb-" on the display with all four red/yellow lights on
Hayward's troubleshooting says a possible printed circuit board fault has been detected and to call for service. The main PCB part number is listed here for identification.
Parts: Main PCB, AquaRite.
Repair or replace?
Most of these parts are replaceable on their own, which is why it matters which one has actually failed before anything is ordered. Whether a repair or a new pump makes more sense depends on what failed and the condition of the rest of the pump. Salt System Repair & Installation
