About the Hayward MaxFlo
Hayward's Max-Flo owner's manual (IS2800X5 Rev. C) covers five model numbers with one parts list. Most parts are shared across all five; the impeller and the motor are where they differ, so match the model number on your pump's label before ordering anything.
SP2810X152 uses the same impeller as SP2810X15 but a different motor (SPX1610Z2M). The motor numbers listed are for 60-cycle single-phase motors.
Common problems and the parts involved
Pump won't prime
Hayward's first checks: the strainer housing is full of water, the cover o-ring is clean, seated and lubricated, the cover is locked, and the baskets are clean. Suction-side air leaks show as bubbles at the return fittings.
Parts: Strainer cover, Strainer cover gasket, Basket. Troubleshoot this
Motor hums but doesn't start
Hayward names an impeller jammed with debris, and says to have a qualified repair professional open the pump.
Parts: Impeller, Motor, 60 cycle single phase. Troubleshoot this
Low flow
Hayward lists a clogged strainer or suction line, undersized piping, a dirty filter or partly closed valve, a suction air leak, and a plugged or damaged impeller, which is replaced together with a new seal assembly.
Parts: Basket, Impeller, Seal assembly. Troubleshoot this
Noisy pump
Hayward lists suction air leaks and cavitation, vibration from poor mounting, debris in the housing, and worn motor bearings, often after a seal leak lets water reach them.
Parts: Pump/strainer housing, Impeller, Seal assembly, Motor, 60 cycle single phase. Troubleshoot this
Motor shuts off
Hayward points to low voltage at the motor, often from undersized wiring; the motor's thermal overload protector shuts it off and restarts it once cooled until the cause is corrected.
Parts: Motor, 60 cycle single phase. Troubleshoot this
Repair or replace?
Most of these parts are replaceable on their own, which is why it matters which one has actually failed before anything is ordered. Whether a repair or a new pump makes more sense depends on what failed and the condition of the rest of the pump. Pool Pump Repair & Installation · Pool Equipment Replacement & Upgrades
